The Resolution of the London EUJB Public Meeting on PM Abiy’s Leadership

DATE: 15 SEPTEMBER 2018

Resolution No. EUJB/R/01/2018

Presented by EUJB Public Meeting

Author Kefale Alemu

Preamble

The Ethiopian Unity for Justice in Britain (EUJB) is a civic society established to advocate for Human Rights, and to support the Ethiopian people in their just struggle against the tyrant ethnic system in Ethiopia. EUJB endeavours to contribute to the realisation of a peaceful, democratic, united and sovereign Ethiopia, where all its Citizens and stakeholders enjoy co-existence with equality and justice

Considering the current Situation of Ethiopia EUJB successfully held a Public Meeting on 01 September 2018 in London. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss jointly the performance of Ethiopia under PM Dr Abiy Ahmed’s leadership over the last 150 days; with the intention to highlight the good and bad as well as identify risks on this traitorous road and suggest way forward. Here on this resolution we present the main points outlined by the key note speakers and opinions/issues/concerns raised by the audience at the gathering. The full proceeding is recorded and released on Tolosa Ibsa’s facebook in four parts (links annexed at the end).

Whereas: The current democratisation process of PM Abiy’s Government is appreciated and we encourage further wider and deeper Political, Economic and Social changes so as to stop lawlessness and human suffering in the country;

Whereas: We welcome the government’s decision to de-emphasise ethnic politics and division in order to keep country’s Unity and territorial integrity;

Whereas: PM Abiy’s discourse is important to democratize Ethiopia, keeping the country’s unity and common values to avert further disintegration remains vital;

Whereas: We welcome the freedom of Ethiopians to hold rallies with their historical flag they recognise without harassment;

Whereas: We welcome the peace deal with Eritrea and neighbouring countries to resolve the outstanding border dispute, however, Algiers agreement should be carefully considered. On the other hand, the Ethiopian government did not give equal attention to the ongoing border conflict between Western Gondar and Eastern Sudan to keep the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country. This boarder dispute runs further south which require proper international intervention to settle the border dispute;

Whereas: Ethiopia is enjoying political Support from overseas donors and the international community for improving its relationships with neighbouring countries;

Whereas: The current Federal system, its constitution, the communist political ideology and policies of the country are causes of displacement, instability conflicts, Human Right Violations arbitrary killings and lawlessness. The Federal system is used to divide and attack certain ethnic groups separately. Many Citizens are still languishing in different known and unknown Jails;

Whereas: Ethiopia is still at risk because of the negative interference and conspiracy of TPLF leadership thugs against the current popular change. They still have their implants in the defence, intelligence and the economy with the intention to reverse the momentum. Hence care must be taken in putting trust when appointing to a new post. The incident at the Somali region is a living example and is likely to be even worse in the south where there are in excess of fifty nationalities. What happened between the Sidama and Wolyita recently in Awasa is a product of TPLF plot;

Whereas: There is no reconciliation without justice and criminals are still threat against the security and stability of Ethiopia; therefore, justice has to be seen and served to restore confidence in the governance;

Whereas: Ambassadors are still appointed and Embassies are run by TPLF/EPDRF thugs who are obstacles to improve relationships between communities and different social groups;

Whereas: Considering the huge role of the youth and their contribution to the current change sharing responsibility in the running of the government is necessary;

Whereas: The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia is directly controlled by the TPLF hence is not trusted by the electorate and participating political organisation. For that its past record prove its ruthlessness to keep the one and one EPRDF in power successively;

Whereas: Welcomes and appreciate Mr Lema Megersa, Mr Demeke Mekonnen and Mr Degu Andargachew’s support to PM Abiy Ahmed in his endeavour to democratise Ethiopia; Now therefore;

1. Calls PM Abiy’s Government to replace the current corrupt and irresponsible National Electoral Board of Ethiopia so as to carry out a free and fair election in Ethiopia;

2. Calls on the government of PM Abiy that constitutional rights to secede beremoved to stop the country’s disintegration and rule of law prevail nationally;

3. Urges PM Abiy’s government that all the Ministries including the Army and Security Organs of the Country to be handled by competent Ethiopians regardless of their nationalities. Kindly ask ethnic based divisive propaganda to be discouraged;

4. Urges PM Abiy’s government to stop human rights violations, corruption, and displacement of citizens and take swift actions against the anti-democratisation elements and reactionary groups in TPLF/EPRDF;

5. Calls PM Abiy’s Government to empower the youth by involving in the running of the government to further strengthen participation, since they are the main source of the current change.

6. Calls PM Abiy’s Government to examine the vague Federal system, its constitution, the confusing political ideology and policies of the country which are causes of displacement, instability, conflicts and Human Right Violations in many parts of Ethiopia;

This resolution has been adopted based on 01 September 2018 Public Meeting at the Queens Crescent Centre in London (UK).
