Here We Go Again: The Agley Face of the New Human Right Violations in Ethiopia
Ethiopians and their friends around the World were very hopeful and optimistic that the suffering of the Ethiopian people for the last 27 Years will be closed. However, we have been witnessing continuous arbitrary killings, displacements and ethnic conflicts since the new PM Abiy Ahmed took power and delivered an impressive speech by recognising the Human Rights Violations committed during the previous Prime Minsters in Ethiopia. PM Abiy Ahmed also grabbed the attention of the Ethiopian people when he apologised for the heinous crimes committed during the Era of TPLF and released several thousands of prisoners. Regardless of his ethnic and religious backgrounds he enjoyed popularity and was praised by all Ethiopians thinking that he would resolve Ethiopia’s problems and unite the different ethnic groups under rule of law.
But Ethiopia is still unstable because people are arbitrarily being killed, tortured and displaced based on their ethnic differences. currently there are ethnic conflicts in North Shoa (Ataye) and Wello (Kemise) Amhara areas. Illegal displacements are also in progress at Gedeo, Addis Ababa and nearby areas by the fanatic terrorist group that calls it self OLF. The Agony is that these displaced people are indigenous people of the ancient Abyssinia/Ethiopia. According to reliable sources OLF has illegal terrorist training camps without or with the knowledge of the Central Government.
The government’s first and foremost responsibility is to safeguard the security and well-being of its citizens. Iwooket urges PM Abiy Ahmed’s regime to ban fanatic organisations and to stop banditry and lawlessness before it is to late. Until a free and faire election is held and a legitimate government is installed PM Abiy Ahmed’s Government will be responssible for all forms of Human Rights Violations and maladministration in Ethiopia.
